Lot Essay

Robert-Jan te Rijdt tentatively suggested the attribution on the basis of the interpretation of the signature. The inscription '.onde Koeter' refers to Melchior d'Hondecoeter (1636-1695), on whose work the present lot may be based. The old attribution to Aert Schouman (1710-1792) would seem incorrect, although the subject and technique are similar to his work.
