Lot Essay

Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746) was one of the leading sculptors of the first half of the 18th Century. He is especially known for his "Marly Horses". These life-size marble groups were created between 1740-1745 for Louis XV's chateau at Marly, but are now in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
