Lot Essay

This portrait is a version of the portrait in the Royal Collection which was probably painted in 1677 (see O. Millar, The Tudor, Stuart and Early Georgian Pictures in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen, London, 1963, I, p. 122, no. 246, II, pl. 117).

Princess Isabella was born on 28 August 1676, the daughter of King James II and his wife Mary of Modena, and died young in 1681.
