We are grateful to David Ekserdjian for suggesting that this composition is after the engraving of Diana by Jacopo Caraglio (1501-1565), (B. 35), the twelfth of a series of twenty prints in the Gods in Niches series, engraved after designs by Rosso Fiorentino in 1526.
