Lot Essay

William and John Cantiloe Joy often collaborated on their watercolours. Born in Great Yarmouth, they taught themselves to paint the sea whilst lodging at the Royal Hospital. In 1832 they worked for the government as draughtsmen at Portsmouth and later worked in London.
