Lot Essay

The subject is typical for Lee, who painted English and French rustic genre subjects, often of coastal scenes. (A fishing net stands to the left of the present picture). He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the New Watercolour Society: his French Fisherwomen is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
