Lot Essay

Nattes was a founder member of the Old Watercolour Society but was later expelled after he exhibited other people's drawings under his own name. Notwithstanding his disgrace, he continued to show work at the Royal Academy until 1814, and forged a succesful career as a dealer and drawing master.
