Lot Essay

This watercolour is recorded in Cooke's diary of 23 September 1848: 'Made Cold sk. of Lighthouse & Church'. Munday suggests that Cooke 'brought it forward', when getting drawings ready for the Christie's sale, held in order that he might raise cash for the construction of his country house.

We are grateful to John Munday for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
