2° (415 x 271mm). Letterpress title, dedication, life of the artist, list of people depicted. Engraved author portrait dated Rome 1646 and 80 full-page engraved portraits of people of Bologna, numbered 1-80, by Simone Guilini and Alessandro Algardi after Carracci, woodcut armorial device on title. (Light marginal dampstain, one marginal tear repaired, small stain on title.) Modern half speckled sheep, gilt spine, red edges (extremities slightly worn).

Second edition. Carracci's portraits of the artisans and street peddlers of Bologna were apparently executed for his own pleasure and 'document his lively interest in the world around him and his keen powers of observation' (MacMillan Dict. of Art, p.865).
