A VERY FINE PAIR OF CHINESE ENAMELLED CROUCHING RABBITS
Mid-18th Century
The plump bodies modelled with the heads raised looking slightly to the left and right, each with long pricked ears washed pale sepia inside, the bodies entirely dappled in soft tones of light brown with areas left white, one ear tip with a flake chip

Lot Essay

A very similar model of a rabbit, formerly in the Collection of the Hon. Mrs. Basil Ionides, is now in the Peabody Museum of Salem, illustrated by W. R. Sargent, The Copeland Collection: Chinese and Japanese Ceramic Figures, 1991, no. 116, p. 235, together with another similar rabbit as no. 115. A larger crouching rabbit from the Art Exchange, New York, is illustrated by G. A. Godden, Oriental Export Market Porcelain and its influence on European Wares, 1979, pl. 171, p. 246.
