4 volumes, 4 (295 x 235mm). Engraved additional title, two frontispieces. Contemporary blue straight-grained morocco, covers with wide decorative border tooled in gilt and blind with fillets, interlocking double-lozenge tool, cornerpieces and panels with pointill work, spines in six compartments with double raised bands, lettered in three, the others with repeat symmetrical design made up from small tools and pointill work, elaborately gilt tooled turn-ins, rose-coloured endpapers, the pastedowns edged in blind with roll tool, tri-colour silk headbands, g.e. (very light scuffing to the cover of vol.I of 'The Iliad'). Provenance: Howard Fobes (bookplate); the set contained in a contemporary walnut book box.
The rectangular hinged locking lid with moulded edge enclosing a compartmented fabric-lined interior, with lacquered brass carrying handles to sides. 11in (28cm.) high; 13.1n (34cm.) wide; 9.1(24cm.) deep.
