Contemporary red straight-grained morocco gilt bound for Count Macarthy Reagh by Richard Wier, covers with a gilt foral border enclosed by a solid fillet and broken cable roll, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second the others with a repeat pattern of small tools around a central flower spray tool, gilt turn-ins, g.e. Provenance: Count Macarthy Reagh (binding, later pencilled note, sale de Bure, Paris, 1815, lot 3191). A fine example of the work carried out by Scottish born Richard Weir and his wife, in Toulouse, for Irishman Reagh between 1770 and about 1774.
