Niedermayr's subtle photographs deal with man's intrusion on the landscape. "Bare fragments of landscape, a few snatches of forest, people here and there, ski-lifts, long paths. In short: superficial phenomena, elements of topography that cannot be suitably deciphered without a knowledge of the Alps themselves. The photographs are glimpses not 'of' but 'into' alpine landscapes." (C. Aigner, 'On the Diappearance of the Visible', In: 'Walter Niedermayer, Die Bleichen Berge', Bozen, 1993).
