Lot Essay

"The suggested implications of the 'Misfits' an almost limitless potential for the recombination of biological units are certainly horrific, although with advances in biotechnology and genetic research they are also considerably nearer to reality today than when Grnfeld began working with this subject in 1990. As an artist, however, his responsibility extends to raising moral questions insofar as they overlap with aesthetic ones, but not necessarily to providing the answers." (G. Hilty, 'The Good the Bad and The Ugly, Young German Artists 2 at The Saatchi Gallery', London 1997, p.5.)
