Lot Essay

This miniature globe shows an example of common practice in the selling of globes in the nineteenth century, that of the vendor's applying his own trade label over that of the manufacturer. Whilst they are not specifically named, the globe is very much in the style of Malby & Co., all of whose globes bear a dedication to the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, and who worked from the address 37 Parker Street from around 1850. See note to Lot 61.
