An 18th-Century silver Butterfield dial,
signed Butterfield a Paris, the horizontal plate engraved with scroll and foliate decoration and hour-scales for latitudes 43°, 46°, 49° and 52°, with spring-loaded bird gnomon engraved with foliage and latitude scale 40°-60°, the compass with replacement needle, the underside of the horizontal plate stamped with maker's proof mark, and engraved with the latitudes of thirty-three continental cities and towns -- 3.1/8in. (8cm.) long
