AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX
attributed to the curtius painter
classical period, circa 450-440 b.c.
The tondo with Pegasos taking off to the right from a small irregular exergue, the wings overlapping the stopped meander and saltire square border, both sides with a boar hunt, one with a youth in three-quarter backview, wearing a chlamys over his shoulder and left arm, moving left with his spear towards the boar, its left fore-foot raised, its snout in the air, the other with a youth moving to the right, wearing a chlamys over his shoulder and left hand, piercing the snout of a boar with his spear, with a reserved circle for the groundline, palmettes under each handle with volute tendrils, the foot ancient but not original to this cup
