JACQUES BAILLY (1629-1670)

Divers Fleurs Mises en Bouquets, dessines et graves. Paris: chez Bailly, [n.d. but three plates watermarked 1742]. Title and 11 etched and engraved leaves by Bailly numbered 1-12, (sheet size: 355 x 285mm, plate size: 300 x 225mm.), three margins of each sheet uncut. (Vertical margin of each plate trimmed, occasionally just affecting plate area.) Unbound, each leaf individually window-mounted. Provenance: M.F.A. F.I. in the U.S (ink stamp on margin of each plate).

A COMPLETE SET OF THESE "FINE PLATES HANDLED IN A BROAD AND FREE MANNER" (Dunthorne). Bailly originally published the plates in about 1670, each showing a single bouquet, tied with a flowing ribbon. The present work is undated but must have been issued after 1742, the twelve plates printed side-by-side on six leaves (as the Oak Spring copy) and separated at a later date. Dunthorne 21; Nissen BBI 67; An Oak Spring Flora 46, no. VI. (12)
