A FINE SET OF ONE OF THE OLDEST SCIENTIFIC PERIODICALS OF ITS KIND consisting of: First Series: vols 1-42 in 21 volumes; New Series (1st), volumes 43-51 in 9 vols; New Series (2nd), volumes 54-70 in 17 vols; Third Series, vols 71-183 (with final plate numbered 791) in 96 volumes (with exceptions noted above); and two General indexes (Vols 1-130, Hemsley; vols 1-164; Chittenden). The first 13 volumes were edited by Curtis, after which it was taken over by John Sims until 1826. Other editors include William Jackson Hooker and Joseph Dalton Hooker. The majority of the plates up to volume XLIII are by Sydenham Edwards, and other distinguished artists include James Sowerby, John Curtis, W. Jackson Hooker and W.H. Fitch.
