Lot Essay

The present group of watercolours is probably the work of two hands. Eleven of the drawings are close in style to a watercolour in the Broughton Collection, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, previously attributed to Eelkes Jelles Eelkema (1788-1839), but now thought possibly to be by Hendrick Reekers (1815-1854), (see D. Scrase, Flowers of Three Centuries, Baltimore, 1983, p. 23, pl. 30).
We are grateful to Dr. Sam Segal for his help in cataloguing this watercolour.
