A set of six French Empire silver-gilt chocolate cups and saucers and six coffee cups and saucers
maker's mark of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot, Paris, 1798-1809, mostly with Austrian control mark for 1810-1824
The circular teacups each on spreading foot, cast and chased with acanthus foliage, the lower part of the body with band of palm foliage, the upper part applied with mask of Apollo and two winged female figures holding flowers, the laurel wreath border and scroll handle terminating at the base with a ram's mask and the top with scrolls and rosettes, the similar vase-shaped coffee cups applied with female figures standing on foliate plinths, the heads enclosed by billowing drapery, the circular saucers each on moulded foot, the centres with band of radiating foliage, the interior borders with ivy leaves, the exterior with laurel, fully marked

The original designs for these cups appear in the Odiot design book as 302 and 303 and were described as;

Design nos. 302
"dessin au trait pour une tasse et soucoupe mi creuse, molette lauriers - tasse sur pied bas moulur feuilles d'eau, culot feuilles de lauriers, applique femme et zphir, en haut molette lauriers, anse rinceau, attache tete de blier".

Design no. 303
"Dessin au trait pour tasse haute et moti de plans de la soucoupe, molette feuilles d'eau, rosace et lauriers rayomant au centre. Tasse pied bas moulur acanthes, cult lauriers, applique femme tenant une draperie, molette lauriers en haut, anse rinceau attache tte de blier".
