A woman crowned with laurel wearing armour: A costume design

Possibly related to the costume designs Stefano executed for the Accademia degli Immobili in Florence from 1650 onwards. Fifty costume studies for the Accademia are in the British Museum, P.D. Massar, 'Costume Drawings by Stefano della Bella for the Florentine Theater', Master Drawings, 1970, VIII, pp. 243-66. About a third of these drawings are related to the opera Hipermestra performed in 1658 for the Cardinal Gian Carlo de'Medici. A costume design was in the Normand sale at Christie's Monaco, 20 June 1994, lot 29, illustrated.
