Napoleon crowning Josephine

Frmy was a painter and engraver who studied with Regnault and David, from whom he learned to paint in the neo-classical style.

The present painting is a copy after David's monumental painting The Coronation of Napoleon and Josephine, located in the Louvre, dated 1805-1807. The original painting was commissioned by Napoleon himself as part of a series of four large-scale canvases devoted to his coronation, which took place on 2 December 1804.
