Lot Essay

The original of circa 1747 and it's pendant, on canvas, 150 x 115 cm, are in the Glorup collection, Denmark (Carl Gustav Pilo I Danmark, exhibition catalogue, Nationalmuseum Stockholm, 1985, p. 38, no6, ill.). An autograph version of the picture, on canvas, 144 x 108 cm, is in the Castle of Eutin, in the collection of the Dukes of Oldenburg (H. Börsch-Supan, Höfische Bildnisse des Spätbarock, exhibition catalogue, Schloss Charlottenburg, Berlin, 15 September - 30 October 1966, p. 136,no50, ill.)

The sitter, daughter of George II, King of England, married Friedrich V, King of Denmark (1723-1766) in 1746.
