The rectangular later top above a frieze-drawer and a fall-front enclosing a gilt-tooled green leather writing-surface, six variously-sized drawers and an open mirrored compartment flanked by two columns, above three drawers and a plinth-drawer flanked by semi-detached columns, the escutcheon replaced

Lot Essay

The swan-capped columns of this secrtaire abattant correspond to those of a secrtaire formerly in the collection of HRH the Duchess of Connaught, Clarence House, and was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 1 June 1972, lot 52, while a further very similar secrtaire in the Muse des Arts Dcoratifs, Paris, is illustrated in L. de Gror, Les arts dcoratifs de 1790 1850, Paris, 1985, p. 111, fig. 193.
