The tall, slender figure shown pulling a tassel-hung sword from a scabbard attached to a cord tied around the waist of her layered robes which are further secured with a long trailing sash, her face well carved with gentle expression and her hair pulled up into a large topknot with another section hanging loose in back, traces of black and red pigment

Lot Essay

The large figure is carved to utilize the ivory tusk's natural curve to imply a fluid movement.

An ivory figure of a female immortal with her clothes picked out in color was included in the Catalogue of the exhibition, Chinese Ivories from The Kwan Collection, The Art Gallery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 28 July - 14 October 1990, no. 100.
