Rowell, Uppark, London, 1995, p. 59). Similarly serpentined stretchers feature on a six-legged 'spider' table dating from the 1760s, at the Vyne, Hampshire (see R. Edwards, The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture, London, 1964, p. 553, fig. 19) which also relates to a 'spider' table supplied in 1768 for Mersham-le-Hatch, Kent by Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779) (see C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, fig. 410.).
