Lot Essay

The form of this richly-figured rosewood table relates to the bedroom apartment 'deception' tables supplied in 1810 for Parlington Hall, Aberford by Gillows (see C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, London, 1978, vol. II, p. 379, no. 498). Its legs, enriched with reeds and palm-bud capitals, relate to the George IV antique style popularised by G. Smith's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826.
