A 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular horizontal microscope,
signed on the body-tube Microscope Achromatique Universel Invente par CHARLES CHEVALIER INGNIEUR Palais Royal, 158, Paris, the body-tube with prismatic attachment, mounted on an arm, and adjustable for rotation with locating pin to the square-section arm, the vertical pillar with rack and pinion adjustment and tangent-screw fine motion, with stage, sub-stage condenser, the lower pillar with plano-concave mirror, the base of the square-section pillar with similar pin fixture, the pin when removed allowing the microscope to swing via the compass joint at the top of the two-section vertical pillar support, on massive circular plinth base, with an extensive range of accessories, apparently complete, including a signed prismatic attachment with camera lucida, a "Millimetre en 100 partes", a bull's-eye condenser with articulated arm, various objectives, slides and slide-making accessories, contained in two purple plush-lined trays with cover, a black painted card shield, two cans containing accessories, and other items, in the original mahogany carrying case -- 11in.
