PROBABLY KASHAN, CENTRAL PERSIA, CIRCA 1200
Of faceted drop shape with angled shoulder rising to the cockerel-head mouth, simple loop handle linking the shoulder and mouth, on short spreading foot, the body finely moulded under the glaze with a band of panels of scrolling vine around large sometimes paired birds, a band of kufic benedictory inscription above on scrolling vine ground, the underside with a band of large palmettes divided by split plamettes forming an arcade, occasional cobalt-blue glaze splashes, the head, neck and handle probably associated, body intact
