Lot Essay

A study in reverse for the two central figures of the coloured lithograph Les Figurantes, dated 1824, part of the series Les Grimaces. The lithograph shows five young ladies powdered by an old theatre director, H. Harrisse, L.-L. Boilly, peintre, dessinateur et lithographe, Paris, 1898, no. 1292. The present drawing will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonn on the artist's work by Etienne Breton and Pascal Zuber.
