Lot Essay

A fine amateur album including portraits of Irish, British and French aristocracy, many taken at Kilronan Castle, the home of Edward King Tenison. Good photographs of children and dogs; fine whole-plate portraits including one unmounted salt print of Robert King's boatman with another man; a gentleman posed with his gun and dog; ladies, one with a large dog, another knitting; Lieut. Col. O'Connor V.C. and Capt. Paterson, 23rd Fusiliers depicting an injured soldier and his colleague in the field; also including portraits of Lord Carew, the Hon. Augusta Dillon (ne Crofton) leaning on her camera (cropped to 1 x 1 in.) and Lord Cronbrock, all of whom were known to practice photography; views include those at Kilronan and Gardenmorris.

Three of the large portraits are duplicated in the albums in the following lot, and the albums would appear to have been compiled by the same person.
