While the maker J. Buchan does not appear to be listed, a pair of mirrors of this form bearing the maker's label of J.Smith is illustrated in C.Gilbert, ed., Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p.432, fig.868. A further example of this form appears in situ in the Parlour at Stanton Harcourt Parsonage in J.Fowler and J.Cornforth, English Decoration in the 18th Century, London, 1974, p.193, fig.177. A pair of this form was sold in these Rooms, 17 October 1997, lot 303.
