A famille verte armorial dish
Kangxi
Enamelled to the centre with a coat-of-arms surrounded by feathery mantling below a helmet and a beacon with banderole inscribed Nisi Dominus, four floral cartouches on a trellis ground enriched with rosettes, the everted rim with two dragons contesting a flaming pearl, and cranes and fish above crested waves (rim restoration, some frittings)

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington and Viscount Pevensey (ca.1666-1743), second son of the 3rd Earl of Northampton. See D.S. Howard & J. Ayers, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Oxford, 1974, p. 186-c3.
