Enamelled with the coat-of-arms of 'The Honourable East India Company' inscribed below with the motto 'Auspicio regis et senatus Angliae', among scattered sprays of pink roses between various spearhead-, dentil-and star-pattern borders, twisted roe handles and finial in gilt

Lot Essay

D.S. Howard suggests that this service for the New East India Company may have been commissioned for its centenary in 1809. In 1709 the Company has been fused with an older East India Comapny founded by Queen Elizabeth I.
