A French ormolu-mounted kingwood, tulipwood, marquetry and parquetry cabinet
In the Louis XVI Style, By Edmond Poteau, Paris, Circa 1900
Of rectangular shape with chamfered angles, the top with ribbon-tied reed-cast edge, above a panelled frieze centred by ribbon-tied scrolling acanthus, above a central half-length parquetry door, with framed marquetry corners and centred by a ribbon-suspended and husk-garlanded oval marquetry panel, depicting figures among classical ruins, above a single Greek-key inlaid drawer and with a further small cupboard below, flanked to each side by a full-length door, the upper section cast with a laurel swag, above a parquetry panel inlaid with a ribbon-suspended basket of summer flowers, the angles each headed by a Mercury mask, above fluted uprights, with panelled parquetry sides, on fluted square tapering feet, signed on the ormolu on the bottom left-hand door E. Poteau. Paris, the interior fitted with adjustable shelves
