The slightly flared bucket bowl engraved with a ship in full sail and inscribed above Succefs to the DEFIANCE Privateer, the stem with two entwined opaque gauze cables above a conical foot (two chips to footrim and one small chip to underside of footrim)

Lot Essay

This Bristol privateer owned by George Bush, Richard George, Richard Symes, John Snow, William Libby and Co., was first declared on 10th March 1757. It was a ship of 200 tons with twenty guns and was successively commanded by Captains Clarke and Condon. For another example see Francis Buckley, Old English Glass(1925), pl. 33D.
