In April 1951 Dillon invited fellow artists George Campbell and James MacIntyre to come and stay with him in a house on Inishlacken, an island a mile off Roundstone in the Atlantic Ocean. He had been given the use of a cottage for twelve months as part payment for a painting. The present work shows two men, the one of the left identified as Dillon, bartering with another in Roundstone Harbour, perhaps negotiating the loan of the lobster pots to use around their island home. A fourth man approaches from the main street carrying provisions to load on their currach moored alongside. Dillon enjoyed his time spent in Connemara and especially around Roundstone where he began a lifelong friendship with the Irish author, Kate O'Brien, who had a beautiful house in Roundstone which she had purchased out of the earnings from the film of The Lady.
