Tangier

'The present small landscape depicts one of the promontories overlooking the sea at Tangier. It typifies the small plein-air studies which the artist produced in and around the city (see lot 53). A note on the reverse, not in the artist's hand, indicates that the picture was shown at the Goupil Gallery in 1908 under the title, Hotel Continental. No work of that title appears to have been shown at the 1908 exhibition. On stylistic grounds, the picture may even be later than this date'.
