Lot Essay

A side table with a similar bulbous turning to an otherwise conventional columnar leg may be found in P. Macquoid, A History of English Furniture, The Age of Oak, London, 1908, p. 213, fig. 184. Macquoid attributes the form to 'a plain survival of a former taste'.
