This drawing belongs to a group of works, all of equal size which Girtin executed circa 1794, while working under Edward Dayes.
A number of other drawings from this group are in the Turner Bequest (TB CCCLXXIX). Another watercolour with the addition of a waggon and a donkey in the foreground is in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (see T. Girtin and D. Coshak, The Art of Thomas Girtin, London, 1954, no. 71). A further pencil drawing of the house is in the collection of Mr Cive, London.
