Lot Essay

The heraldic tablet of an armoured sword-grasping arm is likely to have been commissioned in l792 from Coade by Sir Frederick Trench, later Baron Ashtown (d.l840), M.P. for Portarlington for the decoration of his Irish mansion, Heywood, Co. Leix.
