It is very unusual to find man-made imitations of this type of artifact so highly treasured by Chinese scholars, usually rocks washed out by flowing water and weathered by the temperaments of nature. The almost golden-yellow tone of this stone may indicate an Imperial provenance for this particular example. It has a parallel in the Boston Museum.
