Lot Essay

Pillows of this form were almost certainly inspired by dingyao and qingbai pillows from the Song dynasty. Compare also the Ming white-glazed pillow of this form and size sold in these Rooms, 22 July 1981, lot 285. A famille rose example was sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 5 and 6 November 1997, lot 964.
