Decorated in gold and coloured lacquer on a black lacquer ground with three ladies in a boat gathering lotus leaves and buds, nashiji interior, a glass ojime, slight old wear

Lot Essay

The inscription indicates that the design is taken from a painting by Hanabusa Itcho (1652-1724), a non-establishment artist and lover of the Floating World who was frequently in trouble with the authorities.
