SIGNED IKKOSAI, EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

This subject alludes to the Chinese story of an alarm drum which was kept at the main gate of the Imperial palace to assemble the troops. Under the Emperor Yao's rule, the drum fell into disuse during the ensuing time of peace and became a roosting place for fowl.
