Mumei, Edo Period (17th Century)
The blade, honzukuri and shallow torii-zori with faint itame hada, wide midare hamon with profuse nie, ichimai boshi and ubu nakago, 27.3/8in. (69.5cm.); in a brown and black scabbard with itame pattern decorated with Tokugawa aoi mon in gold hiramakie, the shakudo ishime-ji fuchi-kashira with climbing plants and gilt seed-pods, the menuki formed as crabs and mallow leaves, the shakudo-nanako tsuba with Murasaki Shikibu writing at a table
