Lot Essay

Conceived in the manner of Bernard Vanrisamburgh, the ormolu chutes on this bureau plat are after those found on a kingwood bureau plat stamped 'B.V.R.B' and 'F.L.' for Franois Lieutaud, in Temple Newsam House, Leeds (A. Pradre, French Furniture Makers, 1989, Tours, p. 187, ill. 173).

A bureau plat of similar design was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 19 May 1995, lot 180, while another was sold anonymously at Christie's New York, 23 September 1994, lot 311.
