Lot Essay

Bernardina Sani notes the similarities between this sitter and Anna of Holstein, Countess Orzelska, also portrayed by Rosalba in a pastel now in the Gemldegalerie, Dresden, B. Sani, op. cit., no. 315, fig. 275. Anna of Holstein (1707-1769) was the natural daughter of Augustus II, father of Augustus III, and Henriette Renard. She married Duke Charles of Holstein Beck in 1730.
