Another large drawing by Hackert of Persano dated the same year as the present drawing is in the Albertina, Vienna, C. Nordhoff and H. Reimer, Jakob Philipp Hackert, Berlin, 1994, no. 815, fig. 396. Two other drawings by Hackert of Lake Agnano, also of 1782, are in Goethe's collection at Weimar, C. Nordhoff and H. Reimer, op. cit., nos. 800-1, figs. 390-1. Hackert executed two further undated drawings of Lake Agnano and one of Persano, all now in the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin, C. Nordhoff and H. Reimer, op. cit., nos. 1016-7.
Lake Agnano is between Naples and Pozzuoli, near the Solfatara.
